What you get back if a booking is cancelled depends on who cancels and on the policy the host chose for the listing. You see the policy on the listing and again before you pay, and before you confirm a cancellation we show you the exact refund.
Two kinds of listing
Each host chooses one of two policies. The policy in force when you book is the one that applies to your booking, even if the host changes it later.
- Refundable — the standard rules below apply.
- Non-refundable — if you cancel, at any time, no money is returned.
Whichever applies, you are refunded in full if the host cancels. On a listing where the host approves each booking, you are also refunded in full if the host declines your request, does not answer it in time, or you withdraw it before they accept.
Guest-initiated cancellations (refundable listings)
- 7 or more days before check-in — 100% refund.
- 3 to 6 days before check-in — 50% refund.
- Less than 3 days before check-in — no refund.
- After check-in — no refund for the remaining nights.
Host-initiated cancellations
Whenever a host cancels — for any reason — the guest receives a 100% refund. We may additionally levy a per-cancellation penalty on the host (see Host Terms).
Our check-in promise
If you arrive with a confirmed booking and the host refuses to let you stay, or the place is materially different from the listing (for example a different property, or a room you cannot use), report it from your trip page: the "Report a check-in problem" button appears from your check-in day until checkout. Our support team is alerted immediately and the host's payout is held. Where we confirm the problem you receive a 100% refund, and we will help you find another stay on Aangan Stay for the same dates. A guest who does not meet the house rules shown on the listing at the time of booking is not covered.
Aangan-initiated cancellations
If we cancel a booking — e.g. on safety grounds or a failed KYC reverification — the guest receives a 100% refund and we help with rebooking where possible.
Force majeure
Where a stay cannot reasonably proceed because of an event outside either party's control (natural disaster, government-ordered shutdown, blocked roads for an extended period), Aangan will issue a full refund regardless of timing, on production of evidence. Eligibility decisions are at our reasonable discretion.
